When I’m not sussing out lovely lamps, cool cocktail tables, and stellar shops for D Home, I’m working on our newest magazine, D Moms. But even when I’m toiling away in my other role, I’m still thinking about killer home goods (who am I kidding, I’m always thinking about killer home goods).

In fact, in the latest issue of D Moms the “thinking” turned into the spread above featuring pint-sized furniture cool enough for the kids but chic enough to merit displaying in your living room.

Get the details on all the goods after the jump…

So this one is technically not local in any way, shape, or form, but it’s just too good not to share with my design minded peeps out there…Ready?

The little lamps from Land of Nod are rocking my world.

Now awesome lamps aren’t exactly breaking news, I realize, but Land of Nod is a kid’s catalog, and these are seriously chic (i.e. totally adult worthy) lamps. Oh and they’re cheap…

That brass clip on task lamp to the right (capable of elevating even the most mundane workspace) rings in at $59(!). There’s also a fetching little faceted number on offer for a cool $69 as well as a stellar mini sputnik-esque pendant that you can nab for less than two Benjamins.

Well played Land of Nod. Well played.

My personal litmus test for good kid design is pretty simple. If I would put the item in question in my house even if I didn’t have kids, it passes.

Lulu de Kwiatkowski’s new line of children’s fabrics for Schumacher makes the cut with room to spare.

The prints (all “Lollypop” and “Skittles” and “Twix Tape”… Lulu, apparently, likes her candy) are whimsical and charming without feeling cloying or cliché. I’d happily pop a couple of pillows in “Jelly Bean” on my couch and call it a day. Kids or no kids.

Because Kids Deserve Good Design Too

I’m a firm believer that having little kids does not resign one to a home filled with ugly, hulking, blinking plastic stuff.

That said, I won’t judge you if you actually enjoy having said plastic stuff in your home.  If that’s your thing, then go for it.   But I feel it my duty to present some, ahem, alternative options. Like, say… this rather awesome little number from Land of Nod that bears a striking resemblance to a Verner Panton Panthella table lamp. Cool, yes?

If you’re willing to splurge a bit, you can find wee Philip Stark Ghost chairs at Nest and pint-sized Pantons at the DMA gift shop. Put either chair next to a bunk bed from IKEA (the holy grail of good design on the cheap), and you’ve got the perfect high/low mix. Now all you need is a colorful rug and a big canvas that you let the kids go all Jackson Pollock on to adorn the wall, and you’re good to go.

No batteries required.
