While I was finishing up registering for wedding gifts I noticed a common theme between all my registries: everything was white. Now, I’m all for neutrals and bright whites for a crisp, clean look, but I am also against being boring. I didn’t want to go back and change everything I had registered for, first of all because I think it’s important to have a neutral base to work with, and second of all, I think it takes just a few of the right bright accents to liven an area up. The above room on my home décor Pinterest board has inspired me to add some jewel tones to my palette. I can’t handle much clutter, so this clearly wouldn’t be a realistic room option for me, but I can take an idea here and there and apply it to my future digs to get a similar vibe.
The easiest and most effective way to change up a room is with throw pillows — and we can never have enough throw pillows — right? I adore the little pompoms that spice up this Adhira pillow from Joss and Main, which, by the way, is the Gilt of affordable home decor. The pillow uses a trendy teal color and fuchsia to brighten up traditional jewel tone colors. This Moroccan-style table lamp is another beautiful pop of color with some gold accents. Or, if you prefer a chandelier piece for the room, the Silly Gypsy Chandelier I wrote about here would fit in with the color scheme perfectly. I love it when things work out like that!
For your floors, I think this overdyed rug gives a balanced blend of traditional and modern with the oriental pattern and the vivid pop of color. I’ve notice a lot of boho rooms use scarves and fabrics as wall decorations — a total homage to gypsy wagons. While I like clean edges a little too much to do that, I do plan to frame a square silk scarf like this one in lieu of artwork for one of our bigger spaces. Last but not least, these adorable ice cream bowls add a pop of color to your dishware collection (which, lets face it, is probably white and boring). I was inspired by these funky vases, but the bowls are probably a bit more practical for every day use.
