Love Notes: Dylan and Pamela Dowdy

We took a respite from Love Notes on Friday. No, no, I’m not a slacker. The D Empire offices were closed. But we’re back today with such a cool couple. And there’s good news for you: Creative husband and wife duo Dylan and Pamela Dowdy just may be wheeling their small mobile shop to a hot spot (think: concerts, events, shops) near you. The Dowdy Studio Wagon is filled items they make in their studio space in East Dallas. You’ll find silk screen tees, pillows, clocks, jewelry, and home accessories. You can also check out their wares on their Etsy shop. Get to know the couple a little more by reading about the five things they love. Enjoy.

Follow us after the jump for more from Pamela and Dylan.

Thick frames: “We like to go bold when framing up artwork we’ve created or found on our adventures. That way our home’s walls can be our own personal art gallery of talent. If you’re an art adventurer as we are, there is a great local shop to find cool artist prints from all around. The guys at We Are 1976 do the hunting and gathering for you and present the coolest, finest artwork from their travels. Hit them up at their shops in the Bishop Arts District or off Henderson. They’ll even slap a big thick frame on it for you.”

Succulents in cool planters: “We love bringing a little bit of the outdoors in to liven up the homestead, but we are really bad at keeping plants alive. Pamela’s mom gave us a plant once that had been healthy and growing in their family home for over 20 years…..it lived a good life. We’ve since learned that succulents are the way to go. These things are way low maintenance and easy to keep alive, so it was love at first sight. Scope out your local farmer’s market to find some cool succulents, then find something to put them in: a vintage tin can, old wood box, glass jar, basically anything solid with no holes at the bottom will do.”

Throw pillows: “We like the design term throw pillows just for the mere fact that we envision a massive living room pillow fight where no one is safe from the wrath of a Dowdy cowboy slinging a decorative pop colored square of fluff at oncoming pillow holding enemies. Not only are these great for beating your opponent softly into a gut wrenching laughter, but they do make a dull couch look much more fancy, fun and colorful, and can easily be the added trick to change the look of a room. Check out the next Dallas Flea for a wide variety of pillows made from local artists to bulk up your couch.”

Quirky knickknacks: “We’re still kids at heart, and like to fill our home with silly vintage stuff that reminds us of the care-free fun of being a kiddo. Whether it’s a vintage typewriter to hold our mail, an old whiskey bottle in the shape of a big bellied western man sitting next to a iron toy cannon watching our kitchen, or our collection of hand painted birds from other people’s Mexico vacations, all these items tell a little story. Usually we make up the story, since they’re all found items, but it’s still the little sprinkles of odd uncommon fun in our home. We find most of these lovelies at local estate sales, or by browsing local vintage shops, like Indie Genius in Oak Cliff.”

Local Brews: “Not inspired to decorate your home or need to get some creative juices flowing? Well, then have a local beer, the drink of inspiration, procrastination, and celebration! Grab a local Deep Ellum Brew, Frankconia Wheat or many other local brews from Goodfriend’s Beer Garden right by our studio in East Dallas, and enjoy Goodfriend’s creative interior design while thinking about your own. Heck, you might even see us enjoying a brew or two there too. Come say hi. Cheers!”
