Arts District Suite
This certainly doesn’t look like any hotel suite I’ve ever stayed in—reclaimed red oak floors, original art, nothing particularly matched up. That’s because it’s a complete departure from most hotel decor with art and originality being the focus here. In recent years the rather staid Fairmount Hotel in downtown Dallas has ramped up their image as befits their location in the Dallas Arts District, they initiated an artist-in-residence program where local artists are invited to stay at the hotel and pursue their creative interests. The talented Nicole Cullum Horn of Modern Relics was tapped to design the special Arts District Suite. Everything in the suite is locally made by Dallas artists—the headboard is by Sean Springer of Springer Design Studio and the cool metal sculpture is by George Fowler. I wonder if they offer special midnight appearances by performers at the Dallas Opera.

Thank you Peggy for the wonderful write up! It was such a pleasure to work with Bryan Embry of the Ross-Akard Gallery who approached the hotel with a vision to promote emerging Dallas talent through design. So many artists and creative professionals went into making this suite happen. A big thank you to Erik Glissman, Sean Springer, Erica Felicella, Gary Buckner, Juile McCullough Kim and George Fowler for using their amazing skills to bring this suite to life. Bryan and I look forward to many more projects like this in the future.
I was terribly remiss in not mentioning Bryan Embry of the Ross-Akard Gallery who has practically been the driving force behind art galleries downtown, and it was his vision that got this going. And, I’ve lived in Dallas long enough to know there is no u in Fairmont. Apologies!
